Frequently Asked Questions (F. A. Q.)

Below is a list of frequently asked questions. If you have a question about our services, you may find your answer here. If your question isn't listed here, please feel free to ask us directly on the Contact Us page!

How much does it cost to get my kit/pattern?
Full color patterns cost $7.00 and Black and White patterns cost $5.00. The cost of complete kits varies, but a typical kit with fabric, floss, and a color pattern for a 9" x 7" finished work is about $35.00. Shipping is always free within the U.S. and only $5 USD per item to Canada
Do I have to pay before I can preview the finished image?
Absolutely not! All of our previews are completely free. You don't pay anything unless you place an order for a pattern or a kit. So feel free to play around in our Instant Preview section all you want!
How long will it take to get my kit?
We can usually ship patterns and kits within 4 business days, and shipping usually takes another 2 or 3 days. For good measure, you can expect to receive your order within a week to 10 days after the order is placed. We also offer instantly downloadable patterns so you can get started stitching today! Be sure to visit our Products page for more detailed information on assembly and shipping time-frames.
Do the patterns include any backstitching? Half stitches? Quarter stitches?
We now offer backstitching as a way to increase the quality of your finished work. We do not offer half or quarter stitches, but most photographs look just fine with the whole stitches and backstitches.
No matter what I do, I can't seem to get my preview to look good. What am I doing wrong?
What hints can you give me for generating the best patterns?

You're probably not doing anything wrong. Unfortunately, not every photograph is suitable for stitching. If your photograph includes faces, they should be large and take up most of the picture. Many small details and color shading of photographs are lost in the conversion process to a pattern, so photos with small details and lots of shading may not come out well. Feel free to try as many photographs as you want.

Often times several adjustments can be made to improve the appearance of your pattern. The single biggest factor affecting quality is the number of stitches. This means that larger finished sizes and higher fabric counts usually yield better results than smaller ones. However, more stitches makes the pattern harder to stitch and takes longer to complete. You know best what you're comfortable with, and so we allow you to make the choice of the fabric count and finished size.

Another factor contributing to quality is the colors used within the photograph. Sometimes more colors yield better results; sometimes fewer colors do. This is unique per photograph, so we encourage you to play around with the settings on the Instant Preview page. You may also want to generate your pattern in Black and White or Sepia. The "Sepia" option will give your photograph a wonderful antique weathered look. Try it out!

What personal information do you need from me?
In order to ship your product to you, we will need your name and your mailing address. When you place your order, it is processed using state-of-the-art encryption and data-handling techniques. This means that we never see your credit card information Rest assured, however, that whatever information we do collect from you will remain completely confidential. We will never give or sell your information to any third-party company or person! You may want to read our Privacy Policy as well for more detailed information.
Can you do text?
Adding text, as well as borders and other custom embellishments, is a feature that we have planned for the future. However, at this time, we don't offer this capability.
Can you edit the picture for me? Can the background be removed from a picture?
Usually! Some photographs have backgrounds that are too complex to remove, and some things can't be done with photo editing. (For example, we can't take a photograph of someone with his or her eyes closed and edit it for their eyes to be open!) In these cases, we can usually make improvements, but we can't make promises. If you would like us to edit a picture, please use the Contact Us form for more information. There is no obligation to purchase a pattern or kit, even if we've edited your photo.
